Some days, grounding looks like a peaceful walk outside, fresh air, birds chirping, and main character energy.
Other days, it looks like I’m grounding myself in the middle of a two-hour town hall or training session while nodding like I am fully present and not replaying my entire to-do list in my head. Or right before giving performance feedback when we are all just trying not to drown at work, and everyone deserves grace, clarity, and compassion, and I need to prepare my body, mind, and soul.
And then there are the home days.
The 1000th time I ask the kids to clean their room.
The 1001 question from the little one that starts with “Mommy, why” and ends with me seriously considering saying “Ask Google!” or “Because I said so!” because, let’s be real, I have absolutely no clue what the answer is either.
This is real life. Highs, lows, and everything in between. And grounding is one of the ways I stay afloat.
When the World Feels Heavy, the Body Feels It Too
With everything going on in the world around us, it can feel like there is always something new to worry about. News cycles move fast. Social media never sleeps. Responsibilities at work and at home keep piling up. I am not an expert on world issues or economics, but I do know how it feels to carry the weight of it all in my body.
That is why taking care of ourselves in small, intentional ways matters more than ever. Grounding techniques, breathing exercises, quiet moments with tea (your favorite beverage of choice), or a short pause between meetings are not luxuries. They are tools. They help us stay present, steady, and emotionally regulated when life feels uncertain or overwhelming.
Balance2Bloom is about finding balance in real life, not a perfect life. It is about learning how to care for your mind, body, and soul in ways that are accessible, gentle, and realistic. Even small acts of self-care can help us bloom through stress, anxiety, and the everyday chaos we cannot control.
This Is What Grounding Looks Like for Me
I use grounding techniques all the time. Not because I am naturally calm and centered. Very much the opposite. I use them because sometimes my nervous system is running a marathon while my body is just trying to survive the day.
For years, I heard that deep breathing helps with anxiety and stress. When I first started, I honestly thought, yeah, okay, this hocus pocus is not for me. Breathing is not going to fix this chaos.
Turns out, it took a while for me to actually learn how to do it in a way that worked. And once it clicked, I started to feel the effects.
If I have access to tea, I make tea while breathing through the 101 tabs open in my head. You are going to hear a lot about my love for different kinds of tea in many of these posts, so consider this your gentle warning.
Grounding Without Leaving Your Spot
Sometimes you cannot go for a walk. Sometimes you cannot escape the meeting, the emotions, or the moment. So here is one of my stay in place grounding tools.
I do this with my kids too. When we cannot figure it out. When emotions are high on their part, my part, or both. Some days, they even remind me to breathe, which is both humbling and slightly rude coming from people who still need reminders to brush their teeth.
Quick one for anxiety & stress. Ground your body. Breathe.
Anxiety lives in the body, not logic.
- Put your feet flat on the floor
- Inhale for 4 seconds
- Exhale for 6 seconds
- Do that 5 times
Long exhales tell your nervous system you are safe.
It does not magically make the stress disappear. It does not answer the “why do we have to go to bed on time” question your little human asks every single night like bedtime was invented five minutes ago. But it helps your body calm down enough to respond instead of react.
And one day, that bedtime argument will be something you all look back on and laugh about. Probably after they are sleeping through the night in their own homes.
If You Are Riding the Highs and Lows
If you are feeling great right now, save this for later.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, try it once.
If you forgot to breathe today, this is your reminder.
You are not doing it wrong. You are just human.

Balance looks different every day. Blooming does too. Some days, it starts with a deep breath and a cup of tea.
