Be the rough draft. You do not have to be perfect. You just have to start somewhere.
This blog almost did not happen because I kept reasoning myself out of it. Over and over again. Every time I thought about starting, I followed it with a very convincing list of reasons why now was not the right time. Life. Kids. School. Timing. Energy. Insert responsible adult excuse here.
The funny thing is, when I talk to friends, I cannot help myself. I start talking about the small things I do to feel grounded and look somewhat put together, even though that is not always the case. We trade war stories, and the response is usually the same. You do not look like that. I never would have guessed. You seem like you have it all figured out.
I really do not.
What I actually do is ramble about simple self-care. Food. Skincare. Haircare. Drinking more water. Taking walks. Doing one small thing consistently instead of trying to change your entire life in one weekend. I always say try a little at a time and give it time to work. No pressure. No perfection. No overnight transformation.
Weeks later, someone would circle back and say that was actually really helpful. I started doing that. Or I am drinking more water now. Or that one small change made a difference.
That is when it clicked. Maybe these ramblings were not just ramblings.
So I decided to start a blog.
I paid for the site. Paid for the hosting. Built the pages. Created drafts. So many drafts. I set a goal that if I did not publish by the end of November, I would walk away from it. I could have gone live months earlier, but I kept postponing. School. Kids. Work. Life. All real. Also very convenient.
If I am being honest, I was waiting for perfection.
Then on New Year’s Day, my youngest got upset and said something about perfection. I cannot remember the exact words, but I remember the speech that followed. I went on about how no one expects him to be perfect. How growth comes from learning, not getting everything right. How embracing imperfections is part of becoming who you are.
Halfway through my very passionate parenting moment, it hit me.
I had an entire blog sitting in draft form because I was doing the exact opposite of what I was teaching my child.
Those posts could stay drafts forever. Maybe only I would read them. Perhaps my future grandkids will stumble upon them and think, ‘Wow, Grandma really cared about hydration and inner peace.’ Or I could publish them as they are. Human. Imperfect. Real.
I doubt I will say anything mind-blowing or brand new. You have likely heard most of this before. But I hope when you read my posts, something resonates enough for you to take action. Or it confirms what you already know but needed to hear again. Or it reminds you that you are not alone. Many of us are out here doing our best, learning as we go, and creating moments of joy even when the world feels heavy.
I am mindful that I speak from a place of privilege in many ways. Access to resources, support, and moments of quiet are not universal. This space is not about pretending life is easy or that calm looks the same for everyone. It is about sharing what helps me and offering ideas you can adapt to your own life if they fit.
So if reading something here gives you permission to make the call, make it. If it reminds you to rest, please rest. Be kind to yourself and to others. Do not be cruel in the name of it gives me joy. That is not joy.
This blog is an outlet for me. A place to talk about grounding practices, simple self care, personal growth, and finding balance in everyday life. I still share these thoughts with friends. And if others read them, that is wonderful. If not, that is okay too.
I am sharing this to say start the thing.
Write the post. Launch the blog. Take the walk. Drink the water. Do the small thing you keep postponing because it is not perfect yet. Not everyone gets it right the first time. And even those who claim they did may not be counting how many times they had to start over.
Be the rough draft.
That is how we grow. That is how we bloom.
